Travel: Panama & Costa Rica Day 6 - Isla Parida Snorkeling (and a hermit crab)

Our final stop during the cruise was at Isla Parida, a small uninhabited island. We took the “Island Hopping with Snorkel” excursion and then had a BBQ lunch on the beach.

Our snorkel boat was a Panga boat, so we had to throw ourselves over the side. Our guides pointed out a few turtles, but I wasn’t able to see them while in the water or get pictures from in the boat.

Windstar provided our snorkel gear, so the tour guides didn’t have extra. This is relevant because the back strap on one of my flippers was broken. I realized this when I was in the water at the first stop. The guide tried to help me get it fixed, but even after he looped it through the strap didn’t stay connected. I ended up snorkeling without flippers, it made me a bit slow but was fine.

I also remembered after our first stop that I don’t really like snorkeling. after we snorkeled at the great barrier reef in 2019 I decided that I didn’t ever need to snorkel again because I’d already had the best snorkeling experience I could hope for.

We had three snorkeling stops. I took a photo of a fish at the first stop

The third stop had a cool cave.

We also met a hermit crab while we ate lunch.

I got a nice photo of our ship on the way back from a Zodiac

Overall even though I wish I’d chose a different excursion here – the islands we sailed around were pretty and we did see some starfish and parrot fish. I hope when it comes up again I remember that I don’t like to snorkel all that much and chose a different activity.
